Patient Registration and Accounting Services fall under the umbrella of Patient Financial Services. We are extremely proud of our organization and are pleased that you and your physicians have selected us for your care. At California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), we consider it a privilege as well as a responsibility to make sure that every patient has a positive experience with our organization.
Your initial registration is the first phase of your health care experience at California Pacific and billing through the Patient Accounting Services department should be your final phase. To help ensure all phases of your health care experience are positive, we would like to provide you with information to help you understand the complexities involved in health care insurance billing.
Two items are essential for prompt and accurate billing to your insurance company:
Please be sure and bring this information with you to the hospital.

Patient Financial Assistance Program (Charity Care)
California Pacific Medical Center is a not-for-profit Medical Center, and we recognize that medical bills are usually unexpected, and frequently unaffordable. Because of this, California Pacific has an active Financial Assistance Program also known as Charity Care. This program is designed to help patients that have no, or limited insurance, with their bills. Financial Assistance is based on income, assets, and other factors.
If you would like more information on our Financial Assistance Program, please call our Patient Account Resolution Unit at (415) 600-7280 or e-mail us at cpmcpfsbill@sutterhealth.org for an information packet and application. Please be aware that we frequently approve Financial Assistance prior to providing services as well as after services are rendered.

Physician Billing
Separate from your hospital bill , you may receive billing statements from treating physicians. In some instances, these treating physicians may be involved in your care, but may not have seen you in person. For example, a pathologist may interpret a laboratory test related to your treatment, but may not be required to see you in person in order to read the test and render a diagnosis. In this case, the hospital would provide your insurance information to the pathologist, who is indirectly involved in your care, and who would bill you separately for professional services.
Whenever protected health information is shared under this type of circumstance, it is always done on a “minimum necessary” basis, which means that only a minimum amount of information will be provided by California Pacific to accomplish the billing process.
Other examples of physician-specialists who might be indirectly involved in your care as described above, include:
Each physician maintains a separate and private billing service and some of these physicians may not be contracted with your insurance company. If you have any questions when you receive a professional billing statement, please contact the physician’s billing service by calling the telephone number that is printed on the statement.
